Maarten (1971) went online in 1993. At xxLINK, the first dutch web agency, he helped national and international companies with their first websites. At RapidSugar he helped companies with their permission based strategy, contact programs and campaign concepts.
In 2007 he co-founded Mobile Monday and recently he co-founded SPRXmobile which now are his main focus. He also is part of the twitter community and writes for DutchCowboys (which he didn’t start 8-))
He always fulfilled roles in account, strategy and consultancy. Key words for Maarten are: innovation, creativity, communicator, user centric design, cross-media, change management, realization processes and enthusiasm.
Maarten loves Lori, his wife and the ‘Fitzgerald’ in his last name Lens-FitzGerald. He also loves freddy the cat, his hammock and his gadgets.
On June 4th he found out he had a tumor the size of two fists between his lungs. He just went to the docter for a cough.
It is a Mediastinal Germ Cell Tumor, a type of Seminoma (also know as testicular cancer, its just not down there, its between the lungs). This type of cancer is well treatable.
Maarten has lots of great friends and family who support him during this new journey. He loves comments and other forms of attention!

I’m not real good at this blogging thing yet so i hope you get this. My name is Matt. I’m 35 and live in New York and just got home from the Dr. today and my pathology report confirmed that I too have a germ cell seminoma in the mediasteinum. I googled it and found your blog.
My next step is to meet w/ an oncologist and prepare for the battle against this foreign object growing in my body. The news was certainly shocking but it does appear to be something quite treatable. Zojuist met André gesproken. Ik ben me ‘lens’ geschrokken en zit met natte ogen ook al staat hier dan zo positief dat het allemaal goed behandelbaar is. Je begrijpt wel wat het woord kanker met mij doet, wat voor vorm dan ook. En daarbij, de behandeling en de bijwerkingen op zich zijn al een ramp. En het is niet het enige dat jullie op je bord hebben (gehad) natuurlijk. Ik bewonder je moed, positieve houding en je hebt natuurlijk je fantastische vrouw naast je. Weet dat ook in Culemborg veel aan je gedacht wordt! Ik volg je!

Wat een nieuws. Sprak net Syl en hoor dat je superpositief bent, en terwijl je aan een infuus hangt tgt communiceert via allerlei high tech met mensen over de hele wereld.
Ik lees uit de berichten op je website dat de kanker goed te behandelen is… begreep van Syl dat de cyclus van de behandeling de komende dagen heftig zal zijn… veel sterkte daarmee.
Terwijl jij allerlei behandelingen ondergaat is in hetzelfde OLVG onze dochter geboren… ik kom graag een keer met haar langs of bij je in het ziekenhuis of bij jullie thuis. Laat maar weten wat je uitkomt.

I just wanted to say hi and good luck with this second round of chemo….
we don’t know each other, but my boyfriend happened upon your website and I was immediately transformed by your positive, engaging style. You are right; contact IS good for the soul…in moderation of course.
So, am sending you more of those positive vibes via the wonderful worldwide web.
We have a few things in common which I shall briefly state, ik kan het gewoon niet laten:
I had two tumors removed from my left lung last Friday, 4 july and just got home yesterday, but already my cats have cheered me up no end.
Also; I shaved my head to give myself a sense of control and it was bloody marvellous indeed….
Bovendien woon ik paal naast de OLVG so if you ever have a boring afternoon of no planned visits and fancy a new acquaintance, then give a shout. I even speak Dutch 😉 And my energy is severly limited also, so no worries about lengthy chats!
Maar zorg vooral goed voor jezelf. Good luck en sterkte to you and Lori, you sound like a fantastic pair.

Wat een schrik toen we het nieuws pas gisteren kregen van Lori..! Maar wat een opluchting nu, na je mooie blog te hebben gelezen dat het beter met je gaat…”onwards and upwards”…wij bewonderen hier allen, al je moed en energie en positieve houding… en ook van Lori..!
En last but not least, we vinden het verschrikkelijk leuk jullie hier te zien in Frankrijk aan het einde van deze week, de kids vinden het heel “cool” ook !…
