I just had a great weekend how was yours? Shall I tell you what I did?
You might know already, I went to Delden! Friday morning was a frenzy of activity. I was tired from my Busy Busy Busy day on Thursday and for some reason I wanted to have my company admin done and I needed to get a load of paperwork done to get my request in for income support from the government. Lori helped here a lot of course. When that was done we were ready to go at around 3.

On the road again
The good thing about Delden is that it’s close to the A1. This is one of the main freeways in Holland that runs from west to east. So we got there in an hour and a half. Pretty quick. And right away we went in to my old part of town and saw the house I lived in for 10 years. Pretty cool. We also walked a bit around the down town area. And by then I was knackered 8-). We checked into hotel Carelshaven and got a nice room in the original building, which was roomy and had a high ceiling. There was even a double bath.

I lived here for 10 years

Dinner
After a nap we had a drink on the terrace and ordered a nice three course dinner and some wine. The service was nice and slow and we were able to really enjoy just siting outside. The weather was great, warm and sunny and the place was full. The regulars all had grey hair though. At 10 we were done and so was I!
The next morning after a good sleep I cleaned out the breakfast buffet. Lori had something to eat to. I like breakfast buffets 8-). The hotel rents bikes and of course we got some. We spent the morning riding around town. It was good that I am not fit. Delden isnt a big place. So if I was fit I would’ve been done in an hour and would’ve rushed it. But now, because I have to take it slow I was able to really enjoy everything. Every nook and cranny of the place. I forgot how beautiful it is over there. The amount of green everywhere and also the nice villa’s. There are so many! After a 2 hour tour we went back to the hotel for a nap.

Cows in Twickel
After the nap it was time to go and ride around Twickel. Twickel is the old school oak forrest around Delden including a castle. When I was young I was in the boyscouts and the forrest was our place. I still knew my way around there. Too bad they dont have these kind of forrest’s around Amsterdam. We had a late lunch at the Hoogspel and also cycled over the Esch. This is a type of low hill that is common in the area. This was all nice but also pretty tough. It was over 30 degrees centigrade with very high humidity. Even the cows had a hard time with the heat. At the local plant nursery we cooled down a bit with ice cream.

More food
The afternoon I didn’t go back to the hotel for a nap. We walked around town a bit and settled on the terras of Hotel de Zwaan. A nice place on the main road just at the begining of town. For two hours we deliberated if we shoud have dinner there or somewhere else. Some white beer and bitterballs helped our slow deliberations. By then we were getting into vacation mode. The service was good so we ended up staying there. It still was pretty warm and thunderstorms were aso developing. We had a good view of a busy sky. We ended inside when it came pouring down. The food and the wine was very good.
The next morning, on Sunday, when we were ready to go home we went by old friends of my parents for a chat and coffee which was nice. We arrived home in the afternoon. And yes, I took a nap
It was a great weekend. I have a lot of fond memories of Delden and was able to refresh how it looks over there. Also it was good to just do what I thought up a month ago.
Today I wil do my half way scan. Tomorow I will hear the result and wednesday I will go in for the third run. I am not looking forward to being in the Hostpital for another 6 days.

You always make me smile…so nice you had such a good weekend! Still working on your hat…but it’s getting there!
grtz, Ellemijn
Mooi verhaal. Het is goed om een mega boost natuur en groen om je heen te hebben met de volgende ronde in het verschiet.
Begrijp ik het goed dat die koe later op je bord kwam
Groeten en succes deze week, Hit Theo!
As one gets older, memories become more important it seems. I forgot to remember for years, now I want to go back and really take the time to visit Waddinxveen. Might do that one of these days. Take a hotel and not stay at my parents, sister of family of my wife. On the other hand, there is really nothing remotely interesting about Waddinxveen. And hotel De Unie is probably very underwhelming as well.
Let’s all hope tomorrow brings the news we are waiting for. I can imagine the third round is the hardest. You now really know what to expect. And that you have to go around all of it another time again.
This time you really have to bite your teeth and sit it out I guess. Good luck and may your force be with you!
Great story…..reconnecting to your roots. Will think of both coming 2 days, important days.
All the best,
Yuri
Nice post there Maarten. Great reading you’ve had the weekend you were aiming for. Well deservered and a good charger for this week.
Good luck with the scans, keep it up.
Go for it,
Jos

I am so impressed, how much have you done!!
It sounds wonderful and all that talk of good food, beer, wine and bitterballen made me really hungry…and I have just had lunch, sigh…
Anyway, notwithstanding your internationally flavoured life, you are quite the Dutchie *lol*
Very exciting about tomorrow, looking forward to see Theo on his knees, ready for the coup de grace!
Hugs & kisses
Marta
Howdy Lens!
Just back from my 2 weeks holiday and it’s so nice to read about all your adventures
You’re doing great (not that I had any doubts…) and I am really glad to see you both had a fantastic weekend down memory lane!
Good luck on the scan today and I look forward to see Theo shrinking.
Lots of hugs and kisses to you both!!!

Hi Lens,
xxx Marjolein
Hey Lori & Maarten,
Good to see that you both enjoyed this weekend in Delden and to read about the things you’ve seen and done. Thumbs up for the next days …
Heel leuk om te lezen, goed reisverhaal, met leuke details en niet te lang
Fingers crossed voor de uitslag morgen en sterkte met de 3e ronde…
liefs, B&W
WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!! Good news on the ‘kick Theo the Bastard’ front. 50 % reduction. I’m soooo happy for you. Can’t wait to see the pics
