This morning Maarten went back to OLVG to begin Round 2 (of 4) of Chemotherapy. He’s working really hard to kick Theo out.
Having gone through one round already has helped us both a lot in the preparation for this round. Packing, prepping, going weren’t as nerve-racking as the first time (only brought two bags this time!). Experience counts.
As usual, Maarten approached the situation with his usual brand of cheerfulness and preparation. Knowing what to expect calmed him and understanding that anything forgotten could be brought almost immediately helped.
Thanks to Vincent and his weekly gadget visit, Maarten is on line again at the hospital. I personally like to refer to his equipment (MacbookPro, HSDPA modem, External Hard drive, Video Camera, iPhone, etc, etc) as his ‘Life Support’ system.
I’ve had a lot of requests for visits. Please keep them coming! Visits from Friends, Old and New, give him energy. Another valuable lesson we’ve learned (lesson 9?) is that if you ‘Live sick’ you will ‘feel sick’. Take time to rest and know your limitations, but try to stay active and involved. It goes a long way in keeping up your mental fitness.
Everyone continues to be kind as the offers for help keep pouring in. Thank you all. It means the world to us to know that we are not going through this alone.
This time around, Maarten had significantly less hair then the first round, as it is all free-falling out. So I brought him a hat. Two actually. I kind of like this one, it’s very stylish.
But that’s Maarten.

Great pics again and the hat is classic dude. It’s great to see how vivid you both are in approaching this.
So day one of round 2 is almost done and it looks like it’s fairly OK. We’ll see you soon, but for now:
Keep up the fight @dutchrocky!
Later,
JosK
Hi Lori,
Good to have another update from you and Maarten. The hat looks nice indeed!
Erg mooie hoed! Heeft wel iets maffia-achtigs…helpt bij het vechten
Good to hear that: ‘Honey, Maarten shrunk the Theo” part 2 has started.
Looking good with the had dude, feels like Kojak again right?
Ik ben een onbekende voor je, maar ik volg je strijd tegen Theo met heel veel bewondering. Sterkte deze 2e ronde Maarten!
Hi Darlings, very 80′s the hat *lol*
You are both so wise with thing, it’s incredible! Think I’ll call Maarten Mr Gadget..
Here comes your horoscope for the day:
Mercury Trine Ascendant, , exact at 15:02
This influence is generally good for the flow of ideas and communication between you and others. You are intellectually alive, curious and willing to learn. This is a good day to attend a lecture or a class in some subject. You are willing to have people challenge your ideas and thereby broaden your thinking. At the same time you are happy to share your insights on any subject. Thus all interchange with others today should be fruitful and expansive, both for yourself and for the people you meet. Travel is sometimes indicated by this influence, although usually not over long distances. In the course of daily business you may cover a lot more ground than usual. This is a good day for conferences and negotiations in which it is important to make yourself clear to others.
cheers
Marta
Hat + t shirt = goodness!
Wij komen ook snel weer langs!

Hi Lori & Maarten,
Mooi dat je zegt “Live sick’ you will ‘feel sick’.
Sterkte Maarten, in ronde 2. Geweldig jouw positieve instelling, respect! En het kale hoofd staat je inderdaad erg goed
The hat is cool! Good luck. You know what is coming, maybe because of that you can be stronger. Or know when to lay low and wait for better times.
May your force be with you!
Hi Guys,
Lori what can I say the pictures are great! I like the first one and the hat one of course….very stylish indeed!
Keep up the good spirits and positive energy!
Lots of love and hugs to you both,
xx

Second verse, same as the first. Suck down the chemo and kick Theo out. he’s well overstayed his welcome, no?
Lori, when you get a second, can you please shoot me your postal mail address? eshortill@courtesyassoc.com The DC crew has a special care package that will likely cause some trouble — as usual.
And by the way, has anyone else noticed how much Lens now looks like Wooly Willy — one of my favorite childhood toys?
Geef Theo van Jetje, Maarten! Groeten! EJ
Hi Maarten & Lori,
