Today was the first day that I started feeling better. Still tired and all, but not nauseas. I am learning slowly to live more consciously.
Taking it easy comes naturally now. It is weird being home because, just over a week ago I felt fine and now it is so different. We’ll need to get used to that. And we will. In small steps.

can you measure your head? I know its huge, so I need to make sure a good hat will fit.
Glad you are home and feeling better. This journey is going to be a long winter — cold and restless, a need to hibernate and sleep, but as long as you get a few good days over the months and time to “get out” it will help re-energize you.
I was thinking about something my brothers and I would do when one of us was sick. If i was whining that i had a headache, my brother would punch me in the arm, hard!, and then ask if my head still hurt.
Go get him Lori!
Hi Ellen,
I measured his big fat head and, after stringing a few tape measures together and looking at a hat website, I’ve come to the conclusion that his US hat size is 7 1/4 (22 3/4 inches/58 cm).
NB for other friends and family: Maarten doesn’t need that many hats (where is Mr. Smeds, when you need him?) However if you would like to send him something, contact me directly and I can send suggestions. Please don’t send flowers, while lovely and appreciated, the water houses lots of bacteria which can be dangerous for Maarten while undergoing Chemo.
Thanks!
Lori
Hi Maarten,
Maybe it’s just me, but I think I once read that Napoleon ate it when his stomach ached and I always have some when I am feeling nauseas/sick: licorice….just one or two really help me.
Take care!
Ellemijn
Hi Maarten,
good to see you happy and to hear you are nausea free, it must feel wonderful!
Good luck tomorrow and sorry about my mum’s flowers, we did not think of the bacteria!!!
Btw, what can you eat? Is there anything you crave?
ciao
Marta
Good to see you in such good spirits, I am sure being home raises them considerably. I can imagine how difficult it is to “rest” when you are finally home and see things you want to do…but rest!
Love to you and Lori…hope to see you on Skype this weekend! I want to take this baby for a test ride!
Luv luv…Connie

My God , Lens, you have an enormous interplanetary support team in place, which is great and … well deserved. Kick back, dude: take your time in getting your strength back. You’ll need it in the long run! Hope to see you up and about soon. I guess you old faves peanutbutter and coca cola are out of the question
?! We’re rooting for you and Lori!
Hi,
So good to see you at home. Hope your refill went fine today. Enjoy your home, your garden, your cat and oh yeah your wife (sorry Lori you know to me your first). We will see you again soon.
Most of all, enjoy the attention, lay back (even though it’s harder than it looks) and enjoy the show, you’re in in anyway, so make them give you a standing ovation when it’s all over.
Doei Anita
Just found out about your cancer. I have enormous respect for people who go trough this so openly. That must mean something and spread positive energy around. All the best Maarten! I will be checking you
